This Postcard Box Works Well for Your Charity.

I've been looking for a recipe box that my postcard recipes will fit in without scuffing the edges when you take them in and out of the box. I found one that is big enough and the quality is delux and attractive to put on display.
This was for the Philippine typhoon in 2013. This Charity fund drive has ended and the box moved.

Please continue to donate to Doctors without borders as they do amazing work all over the world.

Where is the "Sunniest City in the U.S.A"?

Of the possible 4,456 hours of daylight each year, the sun shines in Yuma, Arizona for roughly 4,019 hours, or about 90% of the time.

I want to thank whoever bought my Gramabarb's Carrot Pineapple Cake recipe in Yuma,AZ and giving us the opportunity to visit your interesting city.
You will often see the advertising for Yuma to include the words On The Rivers Edge and that is because it is on the narrowest spot on the Colorado River, ideal for early explorers to cross the mighty Colorado! Please watch this important video about the Colorado River and the history and growth of Yuma, AZ.

Yuma Crossing - 1886

While in Yuma watch for the bird called Cactus Wren. It is often seen in the city and is the State Bird of Arizona.

The Cactus Wren will often nest in the Teddy-bear Cholla

The plant has a soft appearance due to its solid mass of very formidable spines that completely cover the stems. From a distance, the stems appear soft and fuzzy, giving it the name "teddy bear".

Welcome to Deseronto a Town with Rich Mohawk History

We are following a recipe from my Aunt Louise's Kitchen who is our family Canadian history buff. So featuring the history of her recipe destination is very appropiate.
"This is for you Aunty Weezy!"

The Town of Deseronto is situated in Ontario, Canada on the shore of the Bay of Quinte on the northern shore of Lake Ontario.

The town was named for Captain John Deseronto (alt.Deserontyon) (c1740s-1811) , a native Mohawk who was also made a captain in the British Military Forces. The land was then granted to Loyalists and Mohawks who had supported the British during this war. In 1784, a group of twenty Mohawk families led by Captain John Deserontyon (c.1740-1811) became the first settlers. Deserontyon's grandson, John Culbertson, inherited his property in what is now the town site.

Jacksonville, Florida is a City of Parks

The city of Jacksonville, Florida operates the largest urban park system in the United States numbering over 337 parks.
Hemming Plaza is Jacksonville's first and oldest park dating back to 1857.

The Treaty Oak is an octopus-like Southern live oak (Quercus virginiana) in Jacksonville, Florida. The tree is estimated to be 250 years old. The local lore about the "Treaty Oak" was written about by a popular journalist intent on saving the tree from developers. The story worked and the name stuck. It is now part of the Jessie Ball duPont Park.

Syracuse, NY Embraces Winter

Following 3 Recipes to Syracuse, NY in the Winter. One of the recipes is a delicious Winter Soup

The news headline that caught my attention when I wanted to know "Whats happening in Syracuse?" was Record April snow falls in Syracuse to take the lead in the Golden Snow Globe
Did you know that every year there is a contest for the 'snowiest city in the US'? This year,2013, Syracuse won the award. Kids are still making snow angels:

Rockville, MD is a Place to Go Ape!

When Chef David's recipe, Crab Cakes with Chili Lemon Aioli, traveled to Rockville, MaryLand I wondered what we will do once we get there. It didn't take long to find my favorite destination (if I was 25 years old that is!). A park where you really can "Go Ape"!
I was impressed with the wide variety of "Go Ape" activities there are and all are off the ground up in the trees!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzye_zJ0PzM
It is not surprising that the Rockville motto is: "Get Into It"

(Rockville photo source is Wikipedia)
Rockville was first settled 1717 and it was founded 1803.

Stone marker on the corner of Vinson St. and Maryland Ave. It was originally placed there in 1803 when Rockville's streets were laid out. "BR" stands for "Beginning of Rockville". Thank you, Rockville, MD, for purchasing the delicious Crab Cake Recipe! We enjoyed our visit.
